Barbara Louise Smith, 65, of West Point, KY passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Norton Brownsboro
Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Barbara was born March 16, 1945 in Louisville, KY to the late John C. and Hazel Marie Grimes Hedge.
She was a Registered Nurse at Jewish Hospital for several years where she received an Ambassador’s
Award in 1995 for outstanding performance. As a nursing student in 1991, she won a national essay
contest sponsored by Johnson & Johnson and the National Student Nurses’ Association. She graduated
from Elizabethtown Community College with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1991 and was an alumnus
of duPont Manual High School (1963).
Her sister, Sheila Campbell, brothers, Bobby Lee and John C. Hedge, Jr. preceded her in death.
She is survived by: Husband, Michael C. Smith, Sr. of West Point, KY, Daughters, Melissa (Jack) Aikin of
Brandenburg, KY and Jill Suzanne (Steve) Flaherty of Shepherdsville, KY, Son, M. Clay (Mary) Smith, Jr. of
Elizabethtown, KY, Sister, Priscilla (Mike) McCollum of West Point, KY, Brother, Marvin Earl (Gloria) Hedge
of Louisville, KY, 9 Grandchildren and 3 Step-Grandchildren.
The family chose cremation.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 7 P.M. EDT at West Point United Methodist
Church, 109 South 6th Street, West Point, KY. Visitation will be held at the church from 6-7 P.M.
