Deborah Ann Benham-Sobel, CSM (Command Sergeant Major) (Ret), 59, passed away Thursday,
January 26, 2012 at her residence in Brandenburg.
Deborah was born September 12, 1952 in Meade County, KY to Roy Dean Benham and the late Marrgwen
Smith Benham.
Deborah was a 22-year veteran of the United States Army. Among her numerous awards are the Legion of
Merit, 2 Defense Meritorious Service Medals and 2 Meritorious Service Medals. She also co-founded the
Meade County Pets In Need Society and with her husband she owned and operated the Creature Comfort
Inn Boarding Kennel.
She was a dedicated Non-Commissioned Officer who took care of soldiers, a true animal lover who helped
needy animals to find good homes, a helpful and loving sister and aunt and most of all a good and loving
wife.
She is survived by: her Husband, James G. Sobel of Brandenburg, Father, Roy Dean Benham, 3 Sisters,
Rachel L. (Kevin) Morgan, Rebecca K. (Danny) Gibson and Tina (Adam) Jackson, 4 Brothers, Jerry D.
(Sandy) Benham, Randall L. (Gloria) Benham, Carl E. (Joy) Benham and Michael S Benham,
Step-daughter, Katrina M. Dupper, Step-Son, Steven L. (Lisa) Sobel, 5 Step-Grandchildren, numerous
Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 12:30 P.M. EST from the Chapel of
Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home with burial to follow at 2 P.M. EST from the Kentucky Veterans
Cemetery in Radcliff, KY.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 30 from 2-8 P.M. EST and Tuesday after 8:30 A.M. at the funeral
home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Meade County Pets In Need Society.
